Dat olie een belangrijke invloed heeft op onze economie, is alom geweten. Ons doel was om deze invloed verder te gaan analyseren, specifiek op de Belgische markt. Aan de hand van aandelenkoersen van de verschillende sectoren in België, te vinden via DataStream, hebben we voor de periode 1993-2012 enerzijds onderzocht welke sectoren al dan niet invloed ondervinden van olieprijsveranderingen. We hebben een verklaring gezocht voor de gevonden resultaten en deze vergeleken met de resultaten voor andere economieën aan de hand van de beschikbare literatuur. Anderzijds hebben we onderzocht als olieprijs stijgingen evenveel invloed hebben op de verschillende sectoren als olieprijs dalingen, we hebben met andere woorden getest op symmetrie tussen beide prijswijzigingen. Voor 4 van de 10 sectoren werd een significante invloed van olie gevonden, en er bestaat, in tegenstelling tot andere studies, symmetrie tussen de olieprijsveranderingen.
